Objectives
Junior Forms
- Acquisition of historical knowledge - To enhance students’ understanding of basic historical facts about the rise and fall of Chinese dynasties in the past, historical figures and events, as well as cultural knowledge
- Mind training - To strengthen students’ ability in understanding, analysing and commenting on historical events, build up students’ objective reasoning and analytical skills in order to foster independent and critical thinking
- Lessons from the past - To help students understand the background and evolutionary changes of the present through the context of the past
- Heritage of virtues - To provoke students' sense of belonging and responsibility towards the people, the society and the nation and inherit invaluable and traditional Chinese virtues and practices
Senior Forms
- Understand the past, experience the present - To contribute to students’ understanding of the underlying causes of historical events and the development and progress of society and nation, and to grasp the essence of evolutionary historical and cultural changes so as to reflect deeply on the background of the current situation
- Develop a historical sense, boost thinking skills - To enhance students’ individual ability in examining and commenting on historical events, as well as in problem-solving, self-reflection, critical and creative thinking etc. through organisng, integrating and analysing historical information
- Apply assimilated knowledge, be involve in and contribute to society - To shift assimilated knowledge during the learning process and apply analytical and judgmental skills, adaptability and practical abilities in preparation for participating in social affairs and adulthood in the future
- Embrace differences with an open mind through sentimental and intellectual learning - To raise students’ sense of identity and belonging to the people and nation through studying the process of striving for ethnic harmony, and the historical development of the country along with the stories of historical figures; to establish good virtues, civic consciousness and an open mind that enables students to appreciate and respect others' culture; to broaden students' horizons in this era of globalization

Features
- To guide students in understanding Chinese History and the traditional culture
- To facilitate students’ understanding of the relationship between the past and the present by quoting daily examples
- To train students’ objective reasoning in analysis through studying diverse views and comments of different historians on historical incidents and people throughout history; to “learn how to learn"
- To learn from reading a range of materials: primary and secondary sources, historical records and through sharing articles
- To foster students’ ability in critical thinking through group discussions, analyses and debates in class
- To foster students’ sense of belonging to the nation and country through understanding the traditional culture
- To broaden students' horizons through encouraging them to participate in regular meetings and activities organised by the Chinese History Society
